SWANSEA MAN SENTENCED AFTER VIOLENT ASSAULT AND DOMESTIC ABUSE
A man identified as Christian Read was involved in a violent domestic incident at his home in Swansea.According to court reports, Read assaulted his pregnant partner, leaving her with bruises and a black eye, and treated her "like a ragdoll." The incident occurred when the victim tried to call the police after Read entered her home in the Clase area, shouting and name-calling.
He responded by pushing her, punching her, and repeatedly hitting her while she was curled up on the floor.
Neighbors heard cries for help and called emergency services.
Officers found Read hiding in the attic under blankets and bags after searching the property.
He was arrested and detained, exhibiting aggressive behavior by head butting the walls.
The court heard Read had 25 previous convictions over 42 offenses, including domestic violence.
Given the severity of his actions, Read pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to 14 months in prison, with half that time to be served in custody.
He also received a 10-year restraining order, prohibiting contact with the victim.
Judge Geraint Walters described his conduct as "appalling" and emphasized that the victim should be able to live in peace without his shadow.
South Wales Police highlighted the seriousness of his violence and its impact on the victim, who reported increased anxiety and feelings of being "jumpy."
