WESTCLIFF MAN JAILED FOR EIGHT YEARS FOR RAPE
A RAPIST from Westcliff has been sentenced to eight years in prison.Charlie Montgomery, 27, who resides on Hamlet Court Road, was convicted following an attack that occurred in the early hours of the August bank holiday.
The victim, a woman in her 20s from Southend, was walking along London Road, Westcliff, around 3am when the assault took place.
Montgomery pleaded guilty to the rape and was subsequently sentenced at Basildon Crown Court.
Det Sgt Chris Bradford, the officer who investigated the case, praised the victim for her courage in reporting the crime.
He stated, “I have to commend the victim for having the courage to report this incident to the police.” The officer also expressed relief that Montgomery admitted guilt, thereby sparing the victim from reliving the traumatic events.
The judge described the assault as 'appalling and terrifying,' highlighting the violent nature of the crime and the injuries inflicted.
Montgomery was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, reflecting the seriousness of his conviction.
Det Sgt Bradford emphasized the rarity of such incidents and reaffirmed the police's commitment to prosecuting offenders.
