ANGUS MAN ACCUSED OF CONTROLLING SOCIAL MEDIA DURING A DOMESTIC ABUSE CAMPAIGN
Charles Patton, aged 31, from Glenclova Terrace, Forfar, was involved in a seven-week campaign of abusive behavior towards his partner or ex-partner.He closely monitored her social media accounts, repeatedly messaging her to question her activity and insisting on seeing screenshots of her calls and messages to determine who she was communicating with.
Patton accused her of messaging other men and claimed she was unfaithful.
He also took her mobile phone without consent and read her texts.
The court heard that his conduct was controlling and coercive, spanning from August 16 to October 3 of the year in question.
Patton admitted engaging in these abusive behaviors at Forfar Sheriff Court.
A judge deferred sentencing for background reports, with consideration of a non-harassment order.
Patton was released on bail and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on February 3.
The case was charged under the Domestic Abuse Act, which was introduced in Scotland three years ago to criminalize psychological domestic abuse.
