CHARLES GORDON

Charles Gordon, aged 52, was found guilty of killing his sister Elizabeth Bowe at her apartment in St Andrews on 17 September 2016.

The court was told that Gordon strangled Elizabeth using only his hands because she was 'cheeky.' He received a life sentence with a minimum term of at least 17 years before he could seek parole.

During the proceedings, Gordon initially denied the murder but later admitted to the killing, saying, 'I grabbed hold of her by the throat with my left hand.

I kept a hold of her until she hit the floor.

I let her go when she went down.' It was also revealed that Gordon contacted police shortly after the incident, telling a 999 operator, 'I think I've killed my sister.

She's dead and I'm alive.' When police arrived, they discovered Elizabeth Bowe lying partially clothed with blood from her mouth, a blue dressing gown around her neck, and torn pieces of a plastic bag nearby.

A pathologist confirmed her death was caused by strangulation.

The attack was described as brutal, and Gordon was taken into custody at the scene.

The judge highlighted the severity of the crime but acknowledged Gordon's police call afterwards.
