CHARLES DE SENA SILVA'S SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE CASE IN DUBLIN
In December 2011, a disturbing case involving Charles de Sena Silva, a 28-year-old man from Cabra Drive, Cabra, Dublin, came to light in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.Silva was found guilty of heinous crimes involving the sexual assault of a six-year-old boy and possession of a significant amount of child pornography material.
Despite the severity of his actions, Silva was spared immediate imprisonment, receiving a three-year suspended sentence that would be contingent upon his continued compliance with probation conditions.
Silva pleaded guilty to three counts of sexually assaulting the young boy, with the assaults occurring between September 1 and November 30, 2008, at the child's residence.
The court was informed that Silva had touched the boy in the genital area outside his clothing on three separate occasions.
The court heard that Silva's actions might have gone further had the boy not told him to stop, highlighting the predatory nature of his conduct.
In addition to these charges, Silva admitted to possessing over 48 videos and images depicting children and teenagers engaged in sexual acts with adults, material that was found during police searches.
The court was also told that Silva was overwhelmed with emotion as details of his own traumatic childhood emerged during the proceedings.
Silva wept as he recounted the abuse he suffered as a child, and the efforts he had made since the incidents to cope with the psychological scars.
