Charlene Kielty, 23, of Inverness, claimed she was attacked on a bus from Grantown on Spey to Cromdale in August 2009.
She later admitted in December 2010 that she had made the false allegation of rape against the bus driver.
The court heard forensic tests in October 2010 showed no link between Kielty and the driver.
Sheriff Ian Abercrombie described the deception as maintained for months, causing distress to the driver and his family, and sentenced her to 18 months imprisonment at Inverness Sheriff Court.
The driver stated he was so shocked by the false allegation, asserting he was 'not capable of raping anyone' and had fully cooperated with police, with support from his family.
