CASH MCLAUGHLIN FROM ROCHDALE SENTENCED FOR PREDATORY BEHAVIOR IN BLACKPOOL

A man named Cash McLaughlin, hailing from Rochdale, has been handed a significant prison sentence after being found guilty of targeting vulnerable young girls in the seaside town of Blackpool. The disturbing incidents took place on May 25, 2023, and involved McLaughlin approaching two separate minors in a manner that caused considerable fear and distress.

According to reports, McLaughlin, aged 34, was operating a van when he first approached a 15-year-old girl on Daggers Hall Lane. During this encounter, he asked her for her phone number and requested to borrow a lighter, all while making inappropriate and sexualized comments towards her. The girl, feeling threatened and uncomfortable, managed to extricate herself from the situation and promptly contacted the police to report the incident.

Later that same day, a second girl, only 14 years old, was approached in a similar fashion on Blackpool Old Road. Witnesses say McLaughlin was shouting commands such as 'get in, get in' at her as she was walking home. This aggressive behavior caused the young girl to panic and run back towards her school, seeking safety. Fortunately, neither girl sustained physical injuries during these frightening episodes, but the emotional impact was evident.

Following a thorough investigation, authorities identified McLaughlin as the driver of the van involved in these incidents. His arrest was made on suspicion of attempting to incite or engage a child in sexual activity. Subsequent legal proceedings led to him being charged with two counts related to these offenses. After a trial, McLaughlin was found guilty on all three counts, which included the initial charges and additional related allegations.

On May 1, at Preston Crown Court, McLaughlin was sentenced to 27 months in prison. The court also ordered him to register as a sex offender and imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order that will remain in effect for seven years. These measures are intended to protect the community and prevent any future offenses.

Police officials have underscored the importance of community vigilance and encourage anyone who witnesses similar behavior to report it immediately. Detective Constable David Fewtrell commented on the case, stating, 'McLaughlin preyed on two vulnerable girls as they made their way to or from school – a journey that every child should feel safe to do. He followed them, made them feel uncomfortable and scared with his words. He made perverted comments towards them. I welcome the fact that he received a custodial sentence.'
