CARMINE AGOSTINO FROM HENLEY SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN OXFORDSHIRE
In a significant case that has shocked the local community of Henley, Carmine Agostino has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of serious sexual offences involving minors in Oxfordshire.The proceedings took place at Oxford Crown Court, where a jury unanimously found Agostino guilty on multiple counts related to his heinous crimes.
Agostino, a 58-year-old resident of Vicarage Road in Henley, was accused of committing these offences over a period spanning from May 2004 to May 2005.
Despite the crimes occurring over a decade prior, he was not apprehended until February 2014, highlighting a significant delay between the alleged offences and his eventual arrest.
The court heard that Agostino was convicted of one count of raping a child under the age of 16, a particularly grave offence that carries severe legal consequences.
In addition, he was found guilty of assault by penetration and sexual assault, charges that further underscore the severity of his actions.
The jury's verdict was delivered on Wednesday, July 29, after which the judge proceeded to sentence him accordingly.
Agostino received a sentence of 12 years in prison for the rape of a child under 16.
For the assault by penetration, he was sentenced to five years, and for sexual assault, he received a three-year term.
Importantly, the sentences for the assault by penetration and sexual assault are to run concurrently, meaning he will serve the longer sentence of 12 years in total.
This case has brought to light disturbing allegations that have deeply affected the community of Henley, and the court's decision reflects the gravity of the offences committed by Agostino.
