HEMEL HEMPSTEAD OFFENDER CARL MILLER AVOIDS JAIL AFTER VIEWING CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In August 2017, Carl Miller, a 46-year-old advertising executive from Hemel Hempstead, admitted to downloading 264 indecent images of children aged nine and ten.
Despite the severity of his actions, Miller escaped a prison sentence.
During his hearing at St Albans Crown Court, Recorder Patrick Fields stated that Miller 'richly deserved' a term of imprisonment.
However, the court decided that society would benefit more from a community order and a rehabilitation program.
The images were discovered in 2016 on a computer and USB sticks seized from Miller's former residence in Redbourn.
Addressing Miller directly, Recorder Fields explained, 'The images you downloaded involved the real abuse of real children.
It haunts them for the rest of their lives.
This is real abuse.
You need to face up to that.' Miller was ordered to register as a sex offender and to adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
Additionally, he was sentenced to a three-year community order and required to complete a 60-day rehabilitation course.
The court also imposed a financial penalty, giving Miller two months to pay £425 in prosecution costs.
