CHESTER TEACHING ASSISTANT CARL JONES SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In February 2019, Carl Jones, a teaching assistant from Chester, was sentenced to prison for multiple child sex offences after engaging in sexual activities with a former pupil.Jones, of Cherry Grove Road, admitted to all seven charges against him.
The charges included causing a boy aged 13 to 15 to participate in sexual acts and possessing indecent images of children.
The case was brought before Chester Crown Court on Friday, 8 February, where Judge Steven Everett described Jones as ‘a disgusting man who perpetuates child sex abuse’ and sentenced him to three and a half years in prison.
The investigation began on Monday, 8 October, after the victim’s parents discovered Instagram messages of a sexual nature sent by Jones to a teenage boy.
Following the discovery, police arrested Jones and confiscated his internet-enabled devices for analysis.
Examination of these devices and social media activity uncovered the extent of Jones’s offending.
The court heard that between 1 April 2018 and 30 April 2018, Jones sent the teenager indecent images and videos of himself and encouraged the boy to send similar material.
Jones engaged the boy in sexual communication, knowing he was under 16, as he was working at the school when the boy was a pupil.
Forensic analysis also revealed that Jones had downloaded and stored a significant number of indecent images and videos of children, including five classified as Category A, the most serious type.
Detective Constable Victoria Hazlewood commented, “I am delighted that Jones is now behind bars where he can no longer sexually exploit and pose a threat to boys.
He took advantage of a boy he knew to be under 16 for his own gratification.
This was a boy who had previously attended a school where Jones was employed as a teaching assistant.
He sent highly graphic indecent images, videos, and messages and incited the victim to do the same.
Furthermore, Jones downloaded and possessed more than 40 indecent images of children.
“I would like to thank all the officers involved in the investigation for their hard work in uncovering the full extent of Jones’s offending.
I hope that the sentence he has received acts as a warning to others.
In addition to his prison term, Jones was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life, was issued a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, and was given a banning notice preventing him from working with children.
He was also required to pay a victim surcharge of £170.
