DENHOLME GARAGE OWNER CARL BRAME SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST SCHOOLGIRL IN BRADFORD
In a case that has shocked the community of Denholme and the wider Bradford area, Carl Brame, a 39-year-old garage owner from Ogden Crescent in Denholme, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences.The conviction follows a two-week trial at Bradford Crown Court, where Brame was found guilty of a total of 17 counts of sexual misconduct committed against a single complainant, a woman now aged 24.
Brame faced allegations of a disturbing series of sexual attacks, which he vehemently denied throughout the proceedings.
The charges included seven counts of rape, five counts of serious sexual assault, and five counts of indecent assault.
Despite his denials, the jury returned a verdict of guilty on all counts after carefully considering the evidence presented during the trial.
Judge Rodney Grant presided over the case and sentenced Brame to 12 years in prison for each of the seven rape charges, 12 years for each of the five serious sexual assault charges, and five years for each of the five indecent assault charges.
The sentences are to run concurrently, meaning Brame will serve the combined sentence in full.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Sadie Marshall of Bradford police expressed her admiration for the resilience of the victim, who is unable to be named publicly due to legal restrictions.
She highlighted the victim’s courage in coming forward and enduring the trauma of giving evidence in court, including a six-hour cross-examination.
The victim, who had previously attempted suicide twice, sought help after experiencing significant distress related to the abuse she endured between the ages of 11 and 16.
Although she had confided in friends and her general practitioner during her teenage years, she did not formally report the incidents to police until she was in her early twenties.
Detective Constable Marshall praised her strength, noting that she is now happily married with a child and has managed to rebuild her life despite the difficult journey she faced.
The case has brought to light the importance of support for victims of sexual abuse and the need for justice in such serious matters.
