CARL ARDEN FROM GRANTHAM ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD ABUSE IMAGE CHARGES IN LINCOLN

In a case that has drawn significant attention, Carl Arden, a resident of Castle Bytham near Grantham, narrowly avoided a custodial sentence after being found in possession of a substantial collection of child abuse images.

The incident dates back to a police raid conducted at his then residence in Larch Close, Grantham, approximately two years prior to the court proceedings.

During the search, law enforcement officers discovered a CD labeled ‘Boys’ stored within a box in Arden’s bedroom.

This particular CD contained more than 300 illegal images depicting children engaged in abusive acts, according to the prosecution.

Additionally, authorities uncovered a DVD that contained a film of child abuse, further implicating Arden in possessing material of a highly illegal and disturbing nature.

Initially, Arden, aged 52 and now residing on Station Road in Castle Bytham, denied any involvement or responsibility for the illicit items.

However, on the day he was scheduled to face trial, he changed his plea and admitted to possessing a total of 381 indecent images of children.

The charges, which were formally accepted in court, date back to March 6 of the year in question.

In sentencing, Judge John Pini QC acknowledged the relatively small number of images involved and the considerable delay in bringing the case to court as mitigating factors.

As a result, Arden was not sentenced to immediate imprisonment but was instead given a three-year community order.

This order includes mandatory supervision and attendance at a specialized sex offenders’ rehabilitation course.

Furthermore, Arden was issued a 10-year sexual offences prevention order, restricting his future conduct and access to related material.

Roy James, representing Arden, argued that his client had come into possession of these images a long time ago and that the case should be viewed within that context.

The judge’s decision reflects a balance between the severity of the offense and the circumstances surrounding the case, ultimately opting for a community-based sentence rather than jail time.
