SALISBURY MAN SENTENCED FOR VICIOUS ASSAULT WITH CRUTCHES
AUGUST 2024 - A man has been sentenced to five years and six months in prison after using crutches to carry out a 'sustained and vicious' assault on a woman in Salisbury.Cameron MacKay, 36, of Rougemont Close, Salisbury, attacked the victim on 26 February at 09:20 GMT on Pembroke Road, Bemerton Heath, Salisbury, with crutches and also brought a hammer to the scene.
Witnesses reported that MacKay waited for his known victim and carried out a violent assault that caused injuries described by Wiltshire Police as 'some of the worst' they had seen.
MacKay was found to have pre-planned the attack by bringing a hammer with the intent to cause serious harm.
During proceedings, it was revealed that he was sentenced to five years and six months for attempted grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon, and harassment.
Additionally, MacKay received a nine-month sentence for possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, an 18-month sentence for harassment, and four months for four counts of assaulting emergency workers between November 2023 and February 2024.
Witnesses also expressed fear that MacKay was going to kill his victim.
The court recognized the bravery of the staff who intervened and emphasized that violence would not be tolerated in the community.
AUGUST 2025 - A man has been unanimously found guilty of sexually assaulting one woman and strangling another following a trial.
Cameron Mackay, 37, of Rougemont Close, Salisbury, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court last week charged with assault by penetration, sexual assault, indecent exposure, actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.
He was found guilty by jury of all offences and remanded into custody.
He is due to be sentenced on 14 November at Salisbury Crown Court.
In around April 2022, Mackay plied one of the victims, a woman in her 40s, with alcohol after she had been invited round to the suspect’s house by a friend.
The victim then fell asleep, and woke up to find Mackay sexually assaulting her.
On another occasion, in February 2023, the victim, a woman in her 30s, met Mackay while he was out walking his dog, when he invited her back to his address.
He then exposed himself to her, at which point she tried to leave.
Mackay has then assaulted her and climbed on top with her, strangling her with both hands.
The victim managed to defend herself and escape the property.
Both incidents were reported to police in around June 2023.
Following an investigation by South CID, Mackay was charged.
