TEENAGER CONVICTED OF RAPE AND ASSAULT OF TWO GIRLS IN GLASGOW
A teenager originally from Oban has been convicted of raping two 16-year-old girls.Cameron Kerr, who is now 19, was found guilty by the High Court in Glasgow and is facing a significant prison sentence.
The offences involved assaulting two girls aged 16 during separate dates in 2017 and 2018, at two different locations in Argyll.
Kerr, from Port Glasgow in Inverclyde, was also convicted of assaulting the victims.
He denied the allegations throughout the trial process.
During sentencing, defense lawyer Lewis Kennedy requested that Kerr not be held in custody until the sentence was imposed, but this was denied by Judge Lord Beckett, who noted that although Kerr had no prior convictions and was young at the time of the offences, the crimes were very serious and bail would not be permitted.
Kerr is due to be sentenced in Edinburgh on March 10.
As he was escorted to the cells, he waved to a woman who was crying, while a group connected to the victims was seen weeping and comforting each other in the courtroom afterward.
The victims’ families released a joint statement, stating they are proud of their daughters’ bravery and hope that their actions will help prevent others from suffering similar experiences.
They also acknowledged the support of the police and Rape Crisis Scotland, reflecting on the lengthy and challenging process their daughters endured to achieve justice.
They expressed their satisfaction with the guilty verdicts and appreciated the strength displayed by the girls over the past two years, hoping these efforts will help safeguard others from harm.
