TEEN CONVICTED FOR REPEATED BRUTAL ASSAULTS ON GIRLFRIEND IN DUBLIN
Cameron Curtis, a 19-year-old male from Finglas Road, Finglas, has been found guilty of multiple assaults and false imprisonment involving his partner, Alannah Corrigan, aged 20.The court was told that Curtis admitted to assaulting Ms Corrigan on July 19, 2022, while they were staying overnight at The Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire.
Additionally, he pleaded guilty to seven counts of assault causing harm and one count of false imprisonment, committed at various locations in Dublin 8 in August 2022.
The court detailed the severity of his attacks, quoting witnesses that Curtis kicked, punched, slapped, grabbed her hair, spat in her face, and strangled her, threatening to kill her and smash bottles over her head.
Ms Corrigan recounted that Curtis hit her face approximately 10 or 11 times during the assaults, and she was screaming for help.
Staff present described Curtis as "aggressive and rude," although Ms Corrigan initially chose not to proceed with formal complaints.
She was treated in hospital with anti-inflammatories and paracetamol.
The court also heard that Curtis accused Ms Corrigan of cheating and became violent when she refused to share her Snapchat password.
The violence continued over several weeks, with additional assaults occurring in her sister’s room, where Curtis again physically attacked her, demanding her phone and strangling her.
Ms Corrigan described a harrowing account where Curtis dragged her by her hair, punched her, and locked her in a bathroom for 45 minutes, threatening her with a knife.
The court was told Curtis showed remorse at times, crying and expressing hatred towards his own father for past violence learned from him.
He has no previous convictions and has been in custody since August 19, 2022, apart from a month on bail.
The judge ordered a probation report for anger management and adjourned sentencing until July 13.
Prosecutors indicated domestic violence from Curtis’s background contributed to his behavior, but it was no excuse.
The case emphasizes the pattern of escalation and repeated violence against Ms Corrigan, highlighting the trauma and danger she endured.
Curtis remains in a relationship with her despite the incidents, and sentencing is pending with potential programs such as anger management being considered.
