CALLUM ROBERTS SENT TO PRISON IN KEIGHLEY FOR THREATS AND OFFENSIVE MESSAGES
A man identified as Callum Roberts has been sentenced to prison and issued a restraining order following his involvement in threatening behavior and offensive communications in the Keighley area. Roberts, aged 25 and currently incarcerated at HMP Leeds in Armley, appeared before Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on May 29, where he pleaded guilty to charges of using threatening, abusive, or insulting language or conduct that caused harassment, alarm, or distress. Additionally, he admitted to sending offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing messages via a public communication network. The court proceedings revealed that Roberts's threatening actions took place on October 14 of the previous year, within the Keighley locality. On that day, he threatened a woman, an act that was documented in court records. Furthermore, on the same date, Roberts sent a message that was deemed grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene, or menacing nature, adding to the severity of his conduct.
Following the guilty plea, Roberts was sentenced on July 31 to a total of 18 weeks in prison for both offences. The court also issued a restraining order that prohibits him from making any form of contact—either directly or indirectly—with two specific individuals. He is also barred from visiting two addresses located in Keighley. This restraining order remains in effect until further notice or a new order is issued.
Court records indicated that the decision to impose a custodial sentence was influenced by Roberts's prior criminal history, referred to as his 'previous antecedent history.' Additionally, his status as a current prisoner was taken into account during sentencing. As part of the court's ruling, Roberts was ordered to pay costs amounting to £85. This case underscores the ongoing efforts of the justice system to address and penalize threatening and offensive behavior, especially when it involves vulnerable individuals and occurs within the Keighley community.
