FERRYHILL SEX OFFENDER ADMITTED TO BREACHES OF COURT ORDER AND SOCIAL MEDIA USE
A sex offender has admitted breaching a court order by entering into an intimate relationship without informing police. This was one of four breaches of a Sexual Risk Order (SRO) admitted by Callum Michael Wayman at a plea hearing at Durham Crown Court today (Tuesday, August 12).
The other breaches involved his use of Facebook, Instagram, and possession of a phone with internet capability, all said to have been committed between June 1 and July 14 of this year.
In each case, he failed to inform police of his use of these devices and social media platforms, breaching the order imposed by magistrates on June 18 of the previous year.
Wayman denied three further charges related to his alleged use of TikTok, Snapchat, and Threads.
After the pleas, prosecutor Charlie Thompson stated that ‘They should be, and, I imagine, will be acceptable to the Crown.’ Judge Nathan Adams indicated the prosecution must confirm it would be satisfied to proceed solely on the four admitted counts within two weeks.
The case is scheduled for sentencing in early October, with a background report on Wayman to be prepared by the Probation Service.
The judge emphasized that no indication of the sentence has been given yet and reminded Wayman that he remains subject to the Sexual Risk Order.
