CALLUM HAINES FOWLER, THE VIOLENT SEX OFFENDER FROM CARDIFF, SENTENCED AFTER HORRIFIC ATTACK

Callum Haines Fowler, a 37-year-old man from Cardiff, has been convicted of a brutal and disturbing assault that took place over the course of a single night. The incident involved both rape and attempted sexual assault, with Fowler displaying a pattern of violent behavior that left his victim traumatized and in fear for her life.

According to court reports, Fowler targeted the woman in Cardiff, where he initially attempted to force himself upon her. His actions escalated into physical violence as he punched and kicked her, causing her significant pain and distress. During the assault, Fowler was observed to be laughing, a detail that underscores the disturbing nature of his conduct. The victim, overwhelmed and frightened, managed to seek help by flagging down a passing motorist, who then called the police to report the incident.

Fowler’s assault did not end with the failed attempt at rape. He physically dragged the woman by her hair, despite her protests and screams for him to stop. He pulled her head towards his groin area, further assaulting her, and struck her multiple times. The victim’s desperate attempt to escape was successful, and she was able to get away from Fowler, who was subsequently detained by police officers. During his arrest, Fowler made a disturbing remark, telling officers, "I know you two are just doing your job but I want your numbers," indicating a troubling attitude towards law enforcement.

Further court proceedings revealed that Fowler, who resides on Clare Street in the Riverside area of Cardiff, had a criminal history that included convictions for robbery, battery, and criminal damage. It was also disclosed that he had consumed half a bottle of rum prior to the attack, which may have contributed to his aggressive behavior.

The victim, in her personal statement, described the attack as a deeply traumatic experience. She recounted the intense fear and pain she endured during the assault, emphasizing that the memory continues to haunt her. She expressed her ongoing emotional distress, stating, "I could use 1,000 words to describe the fear I felt... It still haunts me."

During the sentencing hearing, Judge Simon Mills highlighted Fowler’s blatant disregard for consent and his aggressive, violent conduct. Fowler pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including rape, two counts of attempted rape, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The court sentenced him to five years and two months in prison, with the stipulation that he must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole. Additionally, Fowler was issued a 15-year restraining order to prevent any contact with the victim and was subjected to sex offender notification requirements, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
