BRIAN YOUNGHUSBAND FROM YEOVIL JAILED FOR ABUSING 10-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In November 2016, a disturbing case unfolded involving Brian Younghusband, a 75-year-old man from Yeovil, who was convicted of heinous sexual offenses against a young girl. The court heard that Younghusband, who had developed a close relationship with a woman and her 10-year-old daughter, engaged in inappropriate and criminal behavior that ultimately led to his imprisonment.
Over time, the woman noticed that Younghusband's conduct occasionally made her feel uneasy.
Her discomfort grew when he put his arm around her and rubbed her breast, and on another occasion, he attempted to lift her shirt.
These actions, while troubling, were overshadowed by the more severe allegations that surfaced later.
The situation escalated when the woman’s daughter confided in her mother, revealing that Younghusband had touched her between the legs.
The young girl described the incident as painful and expressed her dislike for what had happened.
This revelation prompted the woman and her husband to confront Younghusband directly.
During the confrontation, Younghusband responded with a disturbing admission, stating, “If the bairn said it’s what I did, then I did it.
She’s not going to lie, but I can’t remember it.” His denial was inconsistent with the evidence presented and the testimony of the young girl.
Police interviews with the girl revealed further details.
She explained that she had been sitting on Younghusband’s lap during one incident, which she initially thought was a simple cuddle.
However, she clarified that it was not a normal hug, and she felt uncomfortable.
She also recounted a second incident when she was unwell and he was caring for her, during which he touched her inappropriately.
Younghusband, who was residing in Yeovil at the time but currently has no fixed address, denied the allegations during police questioning.
He claimed that he might have “accidentally touched her” while they were playing, attempting to minimize the severity of his actions.
At trial, the court found him guilty of multiple charges, including one count of penetrative sexual assault on a child under 13, one count of sexual assault on a child under 13, one count of sexual assault, and one count of common assault.
The judge, Mr.
Justice Ticehurst, delivered a stern sentence, emphasizing the gravity of Younghusband’s crimes.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Ticehurst expressed outrage at Younghusband’s actions, stating, “So it’s not just women you are interested in, you’re also interested in little girls?
You sexually assaulted a 10-year-old.
You abused her for your own perverted desires.” The judge further condemned Younghusband’s behavior, highlighting the devastating impact on the young girl and the destruction of his own family’s life.
He added, “Had you not behaved in the way you did, you wouldn’t be here, your family would not have been shattered and a 10-year-old girl would not be traumatised.
You should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.” The judge underscored that the consequences of his actions would haunt him for the rest of his life, emphasizing personal accountability.
Younghusband was sentenced to five years in prison for the most serious charge, with an additional three years for the sexual assaults, and four months for the common assault, all to run concurrently.
Furthermore, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life and pay a victim surcharge of £120.
As he was led away from the courtroom towards his cell, he whispered “thank you” to the judge, a final, chilling gesture that underscored the gravity of the case.
