MAN JAILED FOR MULTIPLE DOMESTIC ABUSE OFFENCES
Brian Sharp, aged 47 and residing on Basingstoke Road in Reading, received a five-year prison sentence after a hearing at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday (June 17th).On the first day of his trial at the same court, held on Monday (June 15th), Sharp admitted to two charges of exerting controlling and coercive behavior within a close relationship, along with one count of intentional strangulation and another of threatening to damage or destroy property.
From April 30th to December 18th of the previous year, Sharp engaged in ongoing and abusive conduct towards a woman with whom he was in a relationship.
His actions included limiting her interactions with family and friends, dictating her clothing choices, monitoring her phone and messages, and accusing her of infidelity on multiple occasions.
He demanded frequent updates about her whereabouts, insisted she call him regularly, and even requested to see her environment via camera to confirm she was not with other men.
His controlling behavior eventually turned physically violent, with incidents of punching, pulling her hair, physically restraining her, and, on one occasion, strangling her and impairing her breathing.
The victim later fled to a friend’s house, where Sharp threatened to set the property on fire.
