BLACKPOOL MAN JAILED FOR RAPING TEENAGER AND VANISHING IN 2002
A MAN has been jailed for raping a teenage girl.
Chelmsford Crown Court heard on Monday that Brian Pearce disappeared after he was interviewed about the rape and was bailed while police sought DNA evidence, five years ago.
He disappeared for four years, until he was arrested in Lancashire last August, the court was told.
Pearce, 33, raped the teenager at a house in the Maldon area on August 13, 2002.
He was quizzed by police and denied the rape before he went missing, in August 2002.
Pearce, of Midgeland Road, Blackpool, admitted raping the teenager when he appeared in court and was jailed for four years, three months.
He was also put on the sex offenders' register for life.
Annie Dixon, mitigating, said Pearce had shown remorse over what he had done.
He had suffered learning difficulties throughout his life and could still not read or write, Miss Dixon added.
