RAMSEY SEX OFFENDER BRIAN GOODSPEED BRANDED PREDATOR AFTER ISLE OF MAN CHILD ASSAULT
In April 2010, the Isle of Man police publicly labeled Brian Goodspeed, a 66-year-old man from Ramsey, as a dangerous predator following his conviction for a disturbing sexual assault involving an 11-year-old girl.The incident took place in 2006, during one of his routine sales visits in the area, which ultimately led to his arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
Goodspeed, who was known to the victim’s family through his role as a door-to-door salesman, exploited the trust he had built with them to carry out his heinous act.
According to court records, he lured the young girl to a secluded location during his sales rounds, where he committed the indecent assault.
The court heard that Goodspeed had a troubling history, including a prior conviction for a similar offence against a 10-year-old girl in 1974, highlighting a pattern of predatory behavior spanning decades.
Last month, Goodspeed admitted to the charge of indecent assault at Douglas Courthouse.
On Tuesday, he was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
The Isle of Man police expressed their condemnation of his actions and praised the bravery of the young victim for coming forward.
Det Sgt Cathryn Bradley of the Manx Police Public Protection Unit described Goodspeed as a “predator” who used his employment and personal relationships to target vulnerable children.
She emphasized that he would be subject to close monitoring upon his release to mitigate the risk he poses to the community.
Detective Constable Rebecca Sleight, also involved in the investigation, conveyed her satisfaction that Goodspeed had been incarcerated.
She paid tribute to the victim’s courage, stating, “It is a credit to her that she found the strength to come forward and I am pleased that Mr Goodspeed finally took responsibility for his actions which prevented the victim having to go to court and give evidence.” As part of his sentence, Goodspeed will be registered on the sex offenders register for a period of ten years.
Additionally, he is subject to a sexual offences prevention order, further restricting his activities and movements to protect the community from potential harm.
