BRIAN GILES FROM PADGATE SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE IN CHESTER AND STOCKTON HEATH
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Chester, Stockton Heath, and Padgate, a man named Brian Giles has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of a series of heinous sexual offences against a young girl. The crimes, which spanned over two years, involved grooming and abusing a girl who was only 12 years old at the time, and took place primarily at Giles' residence on Bridgewater Mews in Stockton Heath.Giles, aged 55 and a resident of Padgate Lane, was convicted on multiple counts, including two charges of sexual intercourse with a child, six counts of indecent assault, four counts of indecency with a child, as well as taking and possessing indecent photographs of the victim. The trial, which concluded earlier this month, revealed the disturbing extent of Giles' actions and the impact they had on the victim’s life.
The court heard that Giles had engaged in these criminal acts from 1997 to 1999, when the victim was just 12 years old. The abuse reportedly occurred at his home in Stockton Heath and also involved explicit photographs taken in a makeshift studio at his workplace, Creative Camera, located on Cairo Street in the town centre. Police officers, executing a warrant at Giles’ home, discovered numerous boxes filled with indecent images of the girl, further evidencing the extent of his misconduct.
The victim, who has since suffered severe psychological trauma, was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for nine months following the abuse. She described her ongoing struggles in a statement read out in court, expressing feelings of self-blame and the realization that she was groomed. She stated, “For almost 15 years I’ve blamed myself for the abuse I suffered at the hands of the defendant because I had allowed it to continue, but I now realise I was groomed. I was the victim of a horrendous experience, one that no child should ever have to go through. I’ve struggled to cope with the overwhelming flashbacks and nightmares – I was once a happy, strong and independent woman but I’m now unable to return to work due to my health.”
Judge Roger Dutton, presiding over the case, delivered a stern sentence, condemning Giles’ actions as “truly disgraceful.” He emphasized the manipulative nature of Giles’ grooming, noting that the offender sought out the company of young girls to satisfy his own sexual desires. The judge highlighted the repeated nature of the abuse, which occurred weekly over a period of more than two years, and condemned Giles for engaging in full sexual intercourse with the girl when she was only 12.
Judge Dutton stated, “What you did to her was truly disgraceful – you had full sex on a number of occasions when she was only 12 and indulged in all manner of sexual behaviour. This was all happening regularly, week by week, for two or more years. It is quite plain to see that the impact on her life then and since then has been enormous. She has suffered enormous problems as a result of your selfish sexual behaviour at her expense – I hope and trust that this will help her to move on to the next stage of her recovery.”
In addition to his prison sentence, Giles will serve half of his 16-year term before being eligible for release on license. He is also subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and will remain on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life. The court’s decision reflects the gravity of his crimes and the profound harm inflicted upon his young victim, whose life has been irrevocably affected by his actions.
