BRAIN DAVEY FROM BANGOR TARGETED BY LOYALIST PARAMILITARIES IN NORTHERN IRELAND

In a disturbing development, Brian Davey, a man originally from Bangor, County Down, is now the target of a deadly threat issued by loyalist paramilitary groups operating within Northern Ireland. This revelation comes amidst a background of criminal convictions and ongoing tensions surrounding his presence in the community.

According to sources, Davey, aged 27, has been under the shadow of violence and intimidation for several years. His criminal record includes a conviction in 2013 for a double rape, a crime he claimed was consensual sex, which led to a six-year prison sentence. He was released in 2016 but was soon back behind bars in 2017 after being convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl. After serving time at Maghaberry Prison in County Antrim, he was released again just five weeks prior to the current threats.

Loyalist paramilitary organizations have now publicly confirmed that they want Davey dead. They have reportedly given the green light for community-wide action against him, indicating a significant escalation in their stance. This is a stark contrast to earlier threats, which were confined to the Bangor area. Now, the threat is said to be active across broader communities, with the paramilitaries asserting they have a network in place to monitor his movements and act when the opportunity arises.

Historical context reveals that before Davey’s initial imprisonment in 2013, paramilitary groups in County Down had plotted to execute him at the Bangor off-licence where he was employed. A police source disclosed that authorities intervened to prevent his murder, with officers from Newtownards delivering a letter to him warning of the death threat. The source explained, “They were persuaded not to kill him but he remained under threat and police from Newtownards delivered a letter to him informing him that he was under death threat. Loyalist paramilitary organisations believed he was a rapist and a danger to women.”

Since his release from prison, Davey has continued to be viewed with suspicion and hostility. His criminal record includes the double rape of a woman and the sexual assault of a teenage girl. His time in Maghaberry Prison did little to improve his standing among fellow inmates, who reportedly regard him as one of the lowest in their hierarchy. Outside prison walls, he remains unpopular, especially among loyalist groups, who see him as a continuing threat to women in Northern Ireland due to his past crimes.

Recent developments indicate that the death threat is not only still in effect but has been intensified. The paramilitary groups have expanded their focus from local threats in Bangor to a community-wide campaign, with explicit permission to act against him wherever he is found. The groups’ stance is clear: they want him to leave Northern Ireland entirely, believing that his presence poses a risk to public safety and their own interests. They have made it explicit that if Davey refuses to leave, he could face lethal consequences, including being shot or otherwise dealt with in a manner that ensures he is removed permanently.

Since his release from Maghaberry on October 5 of this year, Davey has been attempting to re-establish his personal life. His profile has appeared on multiple dating platforms such as Badoo, Tinder, and Plenty of Fish. In these profiles, he describes himself as “an easy-going guy who loves meeting new people,” with interests including “Gone In 60 Seconds,” “cuddles,” “fitness and health,” “Messi,” and “restaurants.” One profile states he is “open to having children” and mentions that he lives alone. It is also noted that women have contacted him through these dating sites, and some have been added on Snapchat and WhatsApp, where their locations can potentially be tracked.

Despite his criminal history, including the 2013 double rape conviction and subsequent sexual assault conviction while on license, Davey faces no restrictions under Northern Ireland’s public protection arrangements. The Belfast Crown Court heard that in 2013, he had invited himself into a woman’s home, where his advances were rejected. The victim woke up to find Davey performing a sex act on her before he pinned her down and raped her twice. His case continues to cast a shadow over his life, and the threats against him underscore the ongoing tensions and the dangerous environment he now inhabits in Northern Ireland.
