BRANDEN BENNETT FROM PADGATE CAUGHT WITH OVER 800 CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IMAGES AND VIDEOS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Padgate, authorities uncovered a significant collection of illegal material involving children, implicating local resident Brendan Bennett. The investigation was initiated after an online child protection unit identified Bennett's computer activity, which was linked to his residence on Duxford Court in Padgate. This led to a targeted operation by Cheshire Police, culminating in a search warrant executed at his home.During the raid, law enforcement officers seized a computer and a hard drive from Bennett’s property. The evidence revealed that Bennett possessed more than 800 indecent images and videos depicting children, some of which were classified as the most serious category of child exploitation material. Among the disturbing content, there was also a video involving extreme pornography with animals, highlighting the severity of the offenses.
The investigation uncovered that Bennett had used file-sharing software to distribute and allow others to access this illegal material. This behavior indicates an active attempt to disseminate child exploitation content, further aggravating the criminal nature of his actions.
Prosecutor James Coutts explained to Warrington Crown Court that the IP address associated with Bennett’s home was directly linked to the illegal activity. On April 15, officers executed a search warrant, and during police interviews, Bennett initially denied any sexual interest in children, claiming that his searches were solely for adult pornography. However, when confronted with the specific search terms used over an eight-year period, Bennett admitted to the offenses and expressed a disturbing sense of satisfaction, stating he was 'glad' to be arrested.
Mr. Coutts emphasized the troubling nature of Bennett’s behavior, stating, “It’s very clear this man has an unhealthy interest in children. He has watched images of children in the very recent past.”
On December 16, 2015, Bennett pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including one count of possessing indecent images, four counts of making indecent images, and one count of possessing extreme pornography. Notably, Bennett had no prior criminal record, which was acknowledged during the proceedings.
Defending solicitor John Banasko argued that while Bennett deserved punishment, efforts should also focus on rehabilitation. He emphasized the importance of addressing the underlying issues that led to such behavior.
Judge Nicholas Woodward sentenced Brendan Bennett to two years in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years. Additionally, Bennett was ordered to undergo two years of supervision and participate in a sex offender’s rehabilitation program, aiming to prevent any future offenses and assist in his reintegration into society.
