BRANDON DOYLE FROM BIRKENHEAD CAUGHT DISTRIBUTING CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES IN WIRRAL
In October 2017, a disturbing case emerged involving a man from Birkenhead who was found to be involved in the distribution of child sexual abuse images through the Kik Messenger platform. The incident came to light after a young relative of the suspect was seen playing on his iPad, which ultimately led to the discovery of illicit material.
According to reports, the child's mother took the device away from her son and, upon inspecting it, noticed suspicious chat messages on Kik that raised serious concerns.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, she and her husband immediately took the iPad to the Birkenhead police station for further investigation.
Forensic analysis of the device revealed a troubling collection of images.
A total of 48 indecent images were found stored within the Kik Messenger application, categorized into three levels of severity.
Further examination of the chat logs showed that Brandon Doyle, whose online handle was “Bored,” had actively distributed 43 of these images to other users.
Among these shared images, three were videos depicting the most serious form of abuse.
Prosecutor Simon Duncan explained during court proceedings that the messages exchanged suggested a trading system, likening it to children exchanging football stickers, but in this case, it involved the exchange of highly illegal and exploitative material.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that Doyle, aged 20 and residing on Price Street in Birkenhead, was arrested on November 12 of the previous year.
The police had initially responded to a call at the butchers where Doyle was employed.
During the arrest, Doyle denied any knowledge of the images, claiming ignorance.
However, during subsequent police interviews, he admitted to the offences.
Brandon Doyle faced multiple charges, including six counts of distributing indecent images of children and one count of creating 42 such images.
The court was told that Doyle’s actions were not motivated by financial gain but rather by sexual perversion, which the judge described as a pernicious trade that causes significant harm to victims.
Judge Clement Goldstone, QC, the Recorder of Liverpool, sentenced Doyle to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years.
In his remarks, the judge emphasized the seriousness of the offences, stating, “You’ve come very close to spending your 21st birthday in prison instead of being surrounded by your friends and family as no doubt you would like to do.
You have come close to spending your 21st birthday in prison because you chose to become involved in this pernicious trade.
Your interest in peddling pornography was not financial, it was purely motivated by sexual perversion.” He further highlighted that the offences occurred during a low point in Doyle’s life but stressed that each child depicted in the images was a victim, and such illegal activity puts others at risk of exploitation.
The judge noted that a pre-sentence report indicated Doyle was seeking help and had begun to engage with support services, which could aid his rehabilitation.
As part of his sentence, Doyle was ordered to participate in a sex offenders treatment program, complete 150 hours of unpaid work—potentially in the catering industry, where he could be an asset—and attend 35 days of rehabilitation activities.
Additionally, he was mandated to register as a sex offender for ten years and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for the same duration, aiming to prevent further offending and protect the community from potential harm.
