BERNARD VOLK FROM EASTBOURNE, SEAFORD, AND SHOREHAM JAILED FOR GROOMING AND SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST GIRLS
In a significant case that highlights the dangers of online grooming and exploitation, Bernard Volk, aged 21, formerly residing in Queens Road, Eastbourne, has been sentenced to six years in prison following his conviction for a series of serious sexual offences involving underage girls. The sentencing took place at Hove Crown Court, where Volk pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges related to his predatory behavior.Among the charges, Volk admitted to engaging in sexual activity with three girls aged 14 and 15, with one count of penetrative sex. His criminal activities spanned over a period from June 2009 to March of the previous year, during which he used social networking platforms, including Facebook, to establish contact with vulnerable young girls. His method involved befriending these girls online, grooming them by gaining their trust, and then arranging meetings that led to sexual encounters.
The investigation uncovered that Volk had downloaded and possessed indecent images of children, with one count specifically relating to the possession of a child pornography image. Additionally, he was charged with making seven indecent images of children, and one count of downloading such material. Twelve other sex offences related to his conduct remain on file, indicating the breadth of his criminal activities.
Authorities arrested Volk in January following a thorough investigation conducted by Sussex Police. The evidence, including images found on Volk’s computers, confirmed his involvement in these heinous acts. The crimes took place across multiple locations, including Shoreham, Seaford, and Eastbourne, where Volk had previously lived.
Detective Inspector Paul Phelps commented on the case, emphasizing the severity of Volk’s actions. “Volk is a predatory paedophile and he has received a substantial sentence, which reflects the serious nature of his offences,” he stated. “He preyed on vulnerable young girls and exploited his considerable knowledge of computers to facilitate his crimes. This was a complex and thorough investigation by Sussex Police, and we commend the bravery of the victims who came forward to assist us in bringing him to justice.”
