2002: WHITEFIELD MAN JAILED FOR SEX WITH 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
2002: A man aged 64 received a one-year jail term after admitting to having sex with a 13-year-old girl he met via a chatline service.Bernard Peake, who claimed he was 49, had lied about his age, telling the girl he was a 19-year-old who worked as a glass collector.
The girl from Wakefield, Yorkshire, engaged in repeated conversations with Peake, who called her multiple times to engage in explicit discussions.
She eventually agreed to a meet-up, and Peake collected her from Wakefield's local railway station and took her to his residence in Whitefield.
On their way, Peake stopped to purchase a condom.
Once at his house, they watched television before he took her upstairs for sex.
The pair continued meeting several times, during which the girl lied to her mother saying she was at a friend's house.
The relationship was discovered when Peake sent her a birthday card containing £50 vouchers.
Peake, residing on Furness Avenue in Whitefield, appeared before Bolton Crown Court for sentencing, admitting to five counts of illegal sexual intercourse with a girl under 16, with other charges left unresolved.
Judge Gillian Ruaux stated that Peake had been grooming the girl over a period of three months, leading to a prison sentence.
He was sentenced to 12 months in custody and mandated to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for a decade.
