WHITEFIELD MAN ADAM WALTON JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN BOLTON
In a significant crackdown on online child exploitation, Adam Walton, a 29-year-old resident of Calder Crescent in Whitefield, has been sentenced to prison after a detailed investigation revealed his involvement in possessing a vast collection of indecent images of children.The case, which was brought before Bolton Crown Court, highlights the serious nature of Walton’s offenses and the efforts of law enforcement to combat such heinous crimes.
Walton was found to have accessed and downloaded over 8,500 images of child pornography, a disturbing number that underscores the extent of his illicit activity.
The offences came to light after Walton’s former partner became concerned about his online behavior and alerted the authorities.
This led to a police raid on his residence in Whitefield on August 1, 2012, during which officers seized multiple computers believed to contain incriminating evidence.
During the operation, Walton made an attempt to destroy evidence by throwing a laptop onto the floor as officers were loading it into their vehicle.
His efforts to damage the device were unsuccessful, as the hard drive remained intact and was subsequently recovered by forensic experts.
Walton’s actions demonstrated a clear intent to conceal his activities, but the police’s meticulous investigation ensured that the evidence was preserved.
The forensic analysis of Walton’s devices uncovered a staggering 8,573 indecent images of children.
Among these, over 1,500 images were classified as level four or level five under the Protection of Children Act 1978.
Level four images depict penetrative sexual acts involving children and adults, while level five images include more extreme content such as sadism or bestiality, highlighting the severity of the material Walton possessed.
In addition to the prison sentence of eight months, Walton was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for a period of ten years.
Furthermore, he will be subject to a ten-year sexual offences prevention order, restricting his activities and access to certain online content.
Detective Constable Ruth Spencer commented on the case, emphasizing the importance of law enforcement’s role in tackling such depraved activities.
She stated, “Walton had thousands of indecent images on his computer and went to extraordinary lengths to try and destroy it when he was first arrested.
Despite his best efforts, he was not successful, and we were able to retrieve and forensically examine his hard drive.
What we found was a catalogue of child abuse images that Walton had sourced from the internet.
These images reflect a sordid and dark side of the internet that we and other enforcement agencies work tirelessly to police.
When we receive information or intelligence that someone is involved in such depraved activity, we will take decisive and robust action.”
