A resident of Swanage has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for controlling and coercive behaviour targeted at a previous partner.

Benjamin David Jason Albin, aged 25, was convicted at an earlier hearing and later sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court.

He also pleaded guilty to criminal damage charges.

Along with his jail term, Albin is subject to a seven-year restraining order.

The allegations relate to his conduct during a relationship early in 2021.

Throughout that period, Albin persistently contacted his ex-partner daily, making calls and sending messages shortly after she reached her workplace.

When she did not respond, he would locate her physically to see who she was with.

He also reached out to her friends to gather information.

He insisted she use a mobile phone app with location tracking so he could oversee her whereabouts, accusing her of cheating if the feature was disabled.

He routinely examined her phone to view her recent contacts.

Evidence secured from her mobile device included messages with threats directed at her and others she communicated with.

Detective Sergeant Eleanor Jones from Bournemouth CID stated, “We treat all domestic abuse reports seriously and are committed to aiding victims while ensuring offenders face appropriate consequences.

“Behavior like Albin’s causes significant psychological and emotional harm, and this case underscores our resolve to pursue justice.

“I would like to commend the victim for her bravery in reporting this abuse.

I hope her actions inspire others to seek help, knowing they will be supported by police and specialist officers from the initial report through to prosecution.”
