BEN CARR'S SHOCKING CRIME IN STOKE-ON-TRENT: COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR AND VIOLENCE AGAINST FORMER PARTNER

A 42-year-old man named Ben Carr has been sentenced to prison for his disturbing pattern of controlling and coercive conduct towards a former partner. The incident took place over a span of three years, from December 2019 to December 2022, primarily in the Willaston area of Nantwich, but Carr's residence is listed as Freemen Street, Stafford, which indicates his connection to the Stafford area, and he is also associated with Stoke-on-Trent.

Ben Carr appeared before Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, 15 April, where he was found guilty of the serious offences following a trial. The court sentenced him to 30 months in prison for his abusive behavior. In addition to this sentence, Carr will serve an extra eight weeks to account for the activation of a previously suspended sentence that was imposed by Staffordshire Magistrates’ Court in June 2022. This means that his total time behind bars will be extended, reflecting the gravity of his actions.

During the period of his abusive conduct, Carr engaged in a range of aggressive and harmful behaviors aimed at his former partner. His actions included physically assaulting her on multiple occasions, which resulted in visible bruising. The assaults also involved biting her and grabbing her throat in a manner that restricted her breathing, actions that could have had severe physical consequences. His verbal abuse was also a significant part of his pattern of coercion, and he was known to throw objects at her, causing further emotional and physical distress. On one occasion, he damaged her laptop, adding property destruction to his list of offenses.

Even after their relationship ended, Carr did not cease his attempts to contact the victim. He continued to make unwanted phone calls and send messages, further harassing her and causing ongoing distress. The victim eventually reported these incidents to the police in April 2023, prompting an investigation into Carr’s conduct. Following the reports, Carr was arrested and taken into custody. He was subsequently interviewed by authorities and charged with the offences related to his controlling and abusive behavior.

As part of the legal proceedings, Carr is now subject to a restraining order designed to protect the victim from further contact or harassment. This order is a legal measure intended to prevent any future incidents and to ensure her safety moving forward. The case highlights the ongoing issues surrounding domestic abuse and coercive control, emphasizing the importance of legal intervention in protecting victims from persistent and harmful behavior.
