DERBY PERVERT BARRY PEACH SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN DERBY
In a case that has shocked the local community of Derby, a 53-year-old man named Barry Peach has been sentenced to five years in prison after admitting to serious sexual offenses involving a young child. The incident came to light when Peach voluntarily approached Derby police, confessing to acts of indecent assault and child cruelty that he had committed years earlier.According to the prosecution, James Varley, the details of the case are particularly disturbing. He stated, "As far as indecent assault on a young child goes, it’s hard to think of a worse one." The court was told that Peach’s actions were not only morally reprehensible but also demonstrated a clear pattern of deviant behavior. Judge John Pini QC described Peach’s conduct as a "demonstrably deviant act," emphasizing the severity of the crime. The judge also noted that if the offense had occurred in recent years, it would likely have been prosecuted as rape, underscoring the gravity of the abuse.
Details emerged that in May of the previous year, Peach was on his way to Pear Tree police station when he handed a letter to a police community support officer on the street. In the letter, Peach explicitly confessed, saying, "I want to confess something to you – I sexually abused a young child (many) years ago." He further revealed that he had attempted to suffocate and assault the baby when it refused to stop crying, indicating a disturbing pattern of violent and abusive behavior.
During mitigation, Sophie Murray explained that Peach’s confession was driven by a desire to rid himself of guilt, shame, and remorse. She described him as someone who viewed himself as ill during the time of the offenses and highlighted his long-standing struggle with depression. Murray added that Peach, who resides on Alder Walk in Derby, had spent years trying to understand his own actions and the reasons behind his behavior.
It was also revealed that Peach had confided in his wife about his crimes, and together they decided to report the matter to the police. The court acknowledged that Peach’s decision to self-report was a significant factor in the case, with Judge Pini describing it as "powerful mitigation." The judge praised Peach’s moral courage, stating, "You are only sitting there because you had the moral courage to walk into a police station – 99.9% of the population would not have done that."
The court was informed that the young victim was unaware of the abuse until police disclosed the confession, highlighting the devastating impact of Peach’s actions. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability and the devastating effects of child abuse, with the community of Derby now grappling with the repercussions of this disturbing case.
