MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULTING EX DURING ALCOHOL-FUELED DOMESTIC INCIDENT
A man named Barry Greaves, aged 34, was found guilty of assaulting his ex-partner during a domestic incident.
The incident occurred at his residence in Saltburn on October 10, when both parties had consumed large quantities of alcohol.
Police were called to the scene following a disturbance.
Greaves was accused of pushing the woman to the ground and kicking her leg, which led to his arrest.
The woman later requested to withdraw her statement, claiming she was 'blind drunk' and could not remember what happened.
Despite her withdrawal, Greaves accepted that he had pushed and kicked her.
He was also found to be under the influence and refused to take a breath test, admitting he was over the limit.
Greaves has a prior conviction for actual bodily harm assault in 2001.
During the court hearing, his defense argued that his behavior was influenced by her actions, including her alcoholism and periods of self-harm.
The judge, Judge Howard Crowson, sentenced him to an 18-month community order, which includes 27 rehabilitation sessions and a domestic abuse program.
He was disqualified from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £1,000 in court charges after pleading guilty to actual bodily harm and refusing to provide a breath sample.
