BARRY BOWEN FROM NORWICH SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR MULTIPLE RAPE CHARGES

In a case that has shocked the Norwich community, Barry Rodger Bowen, a 62-year-old man from Taverham, Norwich, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses.

The crimes, which involved the repeated rape of a young girl, were brought to light during a trial held at Norwich Crown Court.

Bowen faced nine counts of rape and two charges of sexual assault.

The court proceedings revealed the disturbing nature of his offenses, which spanned a period during which the victim was vulnerable and underage.

The judge presiding over the case, Judge Downes, delivered a stern sentence, emphasizing the gravity of Bowen’s actions and the impact on the victim.

Despite Bowen’s decision to plead guilty early in the process, Judge Downes stated that he could not offer any leniency or credit for this plea, underscoring the seriousness with which the court viewed the crimes.

As part of his sentencing, Bowen was ordered to serve a total of 12 years in prison.

Furthermore, the court imposed a lifelong ban on Bowen working with children, reflecting the need to protect potential future victims from any risk he might pose.

In addition to his imprisonment and employment restrictions, Bowen was also mandated to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, a measure designed to monitor and prevent further offenses.

Since his release in February 2018, Bowen has been residing back in the Norwich area, raising concerns among local residents and authorities about the ongoing safety and welfare of the community.
