ROCHDALE MAN BABAR ALI, 46, JAILED FOR RAPING TEENAGE GIRL AFTER BOOZING SESSION
A forty six-year-old man deliberately took advantage of a teenage girl young enough to be his daughter, after a boozing session, a court was told.Babar Ali, whose own long-term girlfriend was pregnant with their child at the time, raped the 16-year-old girl at a flat in Oldham to which he had keys. The distressed teenager shouted at him to stop but was unable to fight him off.The court heard that Ali, also known as Zakir Miah, raped the girl after inviting her into a room with him.Despite her protests, he pulled her to the floor by her hair and committed the rape.
The girl’s friend, who was present, later reported hearing her shouting: “Get off me” with Ali replying: “Just stay there.”Ali denied having sex with her initially, claiming she was 18 and that she made the first move, asserting that she did so of her own free will.
When police confronted him with forensic evidence, he refused to admit guilt until just before the trial, when he pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court.
Judge Adrian Smith noted that the offence was not planned from the outset but indicated that Ali must have had in mind the prospect of a sexual encounter.
The judge also stated, “You were aware that she had been drinking vodka and put herself in a vulnerable position.
She did not want intercourse, and you made her.”Wayne Jackson, the prosecutor, explained that the girl had agreed to go to the flat with her friend and Ali, where they were drinking.
Ali then asked her to go into a room alone, which led to the assault.
Ali, at the time, was not considered a sexual predator and was described as having made a gross error of judgment and being extremely remorseful.
