BOWDON MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER IN LONDON HOTEL
A man from Bowdon has been publicly identified as Antonio Franchitti, who received a 26-month prison sentence after being found guilty of causing actual bodily harm through assault, along with charges of intentional strangulation and suffocation. The incident in question occurred during a New Year’s trip to London, inside a hotel room at Club Quarters Hotel, where he was accused of attacking his former partner violently.
Court reports indicate that Franchitti, aged 63, lost his temper following a disagreement over sexual activity, which led him to drag the woman across the carpet, causing burns.
He then reportedly covered her mouth to suffocate her, with her describing the experience as if she was fighting for her life.
The attack caused significant injuries, including chipped teeth, facial swelling, a bite mark inside her mouth, and bruising around her face and neck, necessitating treatment at Wythenshawe Hospital.
The woman, from Knutsford, testified that she feared she might die during the assault and shared the emotional aftermath, including exhaustion, persistent pain, and her children’s distress.
The couple had been together for four years, during which Franchitti became obsessive when she tried to leave the relationship.
His defense argued that he felt genuine remorse and characterized the incident as an isolated event.
The judge handed down a 26-month sentence and issued a restraining order lasting ten years.
During police interviews, Franchitti did not comment and claimed that a facial mark was caused by a curling iron.
The court took into account his clean criminal record and positive character references when sentencing him.
