BRIDLINGTON PAEDOPHILE ANTHONY VOWLES FACES LONG PRISON SENTENCE AFTER ADMITTING MULTIPLE SEXUAL OFFENCES

Anthony Vowles, a 31-year-old man from Bridlington, is at the center of a serious criminal case involving multiple sexual offences against young boys. His legal troubles have spanned several years, with the most recent developments revealing the extent of his offending behavior and the serious charges he now faces.

In a court appearance at Hull Crown Court on Wednesday, March 4, Vowles pleaded guilty to a series of grave charges. These included two counts of rape, one charge of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and six additional counts of sexually assaulting a young boy. The offences took place between July and December of 2013, and involved a second boy, further highlighting the disturbing pattern of Vowles’s criminal behavior.

During the proceedings, Crown barrister John Thackray explained that the Crown was not surprised by Vowles’s guilty pleas. However, he noted that the details of the case were not yet open for sentencing purposes. Thackray also pointed out that Vowles was already serving a nine-year prison sentence for similar offences committed against a different boy, although those previous crimes did not include rape charges.

Vowles’s defense lawyer, David Cammidge, acknowledged that although his client did not immediately plead guilty, he had admitted to the offences in a timely manner to secure the maximum possible reduction in his sentence. Cammidge emphasized that Vowles understood he could not be sentenced immediately and was cooperating with the legal process.

Judge Jeremy Richardson, QC, addressed Vowles directly, stating, “You have today pleaded guilty to very serious charges. As the circumstances appear at the moment, it will be a custodial sentence. Inevitably it will be a sentence of some substance. I need further information about you. I need to determine the issue of the danger you pose to the public and young persons. You have been sensible to plead guilty at this stage. That has saved a lot of anguish all around.”

He then adjourned the sentencing hearing until April 17, allowing for further assessment of Vowles’s case and the potential risk he poses to society.

Looking back to earlier proceedings, Vowles’s criminal history includes a significant conviction from May 2014. On that occasion, he was sentenced to nine years in prison after admitting to multiple sexual offences against a 12-year-old boy. The offences, which took place between July 2013 and January 2014 in the Filey area, involved eight counts of sexual activity with a minor under 13 and four counts of inciting sexual activity. The victim, who was only 12 at the time, was able to come forward after revealing the abuse to his parents, leading to Vowles’s arrest in Bridlington.

Detective Constable Nigel Pepper commented on the case, stating, “Anthony Vowles preyed on an extremely vulnerable young boy and used him for his own sexual gratification on a number of occasions. He may have continued his offending if the victim had not found the courage to come forward.”

As the legal process continues, Vowles’s case remains a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who exploit the trust of minors, and the importance of vigilant law enforcement and community awareness in protecting vulnerable children from harm.
