LANCASHIRE RAPIST ANTHONY PHILLIPS WINS RIGHT TO EARLY PAROLE
A man from Lancashire who was given a life sentence has seen his minimum term cut by one year following an appeal.
Anthony Phillips, age 38 from Chorley, was found guilty of raping a woman in September 2012 and was ordered in April by Preston Crown Court to serve a minimum of 11 years behind bars.
He entered a guilty plea to the charges.
During the appeal process at the Court of Appeal in London, the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Thomas, decided to reduce Phillips's required minimum time in prison to 10 years.
The judgment stated, 'Giving judgment at the Court of Appeal in London, the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Thomas, reduced the minimum term he must serve to 10 years.' It was noted that Phillips admitted to the rape and three counts of assault, leading to the alteration of his sentence following the appeal.
