NOTTINGHAM MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND BITING PARTNER
A Nottingham woman-beater carried out what a prosecutor described as "unprovoked attacks” on two individuals while under the influence of drink and drugs.Nottingham Crown Court heard how Anthony Kerley first assaulted a friend with multiple blows and then turned on his own partner when she attempted to intervene.
The 30-year-old, residing in Radford, repeatedly punched her in the face and then bit her so forcefully and for so long that she urinated herself out of fear.
When police arrived to arrest him, Kerley spat in the face of a female officer who was attempting to take him into custody.
Judge Steven Coupland sentenced him to 22 months in jail, stating: “Drink and drugs are not your friend.
You may well have been involved in a toxic relationship but what you are here in court for is about you.” The judge added that Kerley, who has eight previous convictions for 19 offences, had behaved aggressively under the influence of substances and had attacked two people, including biting his partner.
Prosecutor Abigail Hill detailed that Kerley, his partner, and her male friend had spent the evening drinking in Nottingham when Kerley suddenly attacked the first victim around 1am on February 9.
She recounted how he grabbed the man by the neck and assaulted him with multiple punches.
When she tried to stop him, Kerley attacked her as well, punching her three to four times and biting her wrist, clenched on for 30 seconds to a minute, causing her to urinate from fear.
Police confirmed Kerley’s aggression during arrest, including spitting on an officer.
Kerley pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault, and assault of an emergency worker.
Mitigation argued that Kerley had attempted to end his relationship with the victim but was threatened with her self-harm, and mentioned he had previously been stabbed by a man linked to her who was later imprisoned for five years.
Aside from his jail sentence, he was given a restraining order not to contact the victims or visit their addresses in Lincoln and Newark.
