ABERDARE DOMESTIC ABUSER PUNCHED PARTNER IN FACE AND 'JABBED' HER WITH KNIFE
A man convicted of domestic violence was sentenced to prison following an assault on his partner, which involved punching her in the face and stabbing her with a kitchen knife.Anthony Foley, 44, of Aberdare, committed the attack after his partner turned down his sexual advances.
The court heard that police arrived shortly after the incident but Foley had already left the scene.
Subsequently, Foley was detained by officers and claimed during a police interview that his actions were in self-defence.
He denied making threats, physically assaulting his partner, or using a weapon.
During the court hearing, the defendant pleaded guilty to charges including actual bodily harm, assault by beating, criminal damage, theft, and possession of a weapon.
The victim provided an impact statement revealing that the attack caused her to suffer a mental breakdown and disrupted her sleep.
She described hearing Foley's screams in her mind whenever she closes her eyes, reminiscent of the incident.
She also mentioned that her social life had suffered significantly.
Constable Jon Baber of South Wales Police described Foley as a dangerous and violent individual, emphasizing that he must now face the repercussions of his actions, while acknowledging the victim's bravery.
The judge condemned Foley’s conduct as "appalling, violent, and brutal," and sentenced him to three years and four months in prison.
A restraining order will be in place once he is released from incarceration.
