HAILSHAM MAN ANTHONY CALWAY SENT TO PRISON FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN BRIGHTON
In April 2021, a disturbing case involving a local sex offender from Hailsham captured public attention as Anthony Calway was sentenced to prison for multiple sexual assaults committed in Brighton.Calway, a 49-year-old man who is currently unemployed, was found guilty of targeting three young girls, all of whom were minors at the time of the offenses. The victims, whose identities are protected by law, were known to Calway, who is described as having a bearded appearance. The court proceedings revealed that Calway was able to gain unsupervised access to these girls, which he exploited for his own sexual gratification.
Lewes Crown Court heard detailed accounts of the crimes, which took place in Brighton, involving victims aged between 12 and 18 years old. The court was told that Calway’s actions were premeditated and that he used his position to manipulate and abuse the young girls.
Following a thorough trial, Calway was convicted of multiple counts of sexual assault. As a result, he was sentenced to a term of three years and ten months in prison. The court also ordered that he be registered as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to monitor and restrict his activities post-release.
In addition to his imprisonment and registration as a sex offender, Calway was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. This order, which remains in effect until further court notice, imposes strict restrictions on his access to children and aims to prevent any future offenses.
Calway’s case highlights the ongoing concerns about safeguarding minors and the importance of legal measures to prevent sexual offenses. His sentencing serves as a reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who commit such crimes, especially when they exploit their familiarity with victims to carry out their offenses.
