2006: WOMAN JAILED FOR KILLING PARTNER IN ROW OVER BABY
2006: A woman who fatally stabbed her partner with a decorating knife following an argument has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison.Ann Waters caused the death of 27-year-old Mark Kenyon just two days after discovering that her long-awaited baby had been permanently taken away from them.
Liverpool Crown Court was told that both Waters and Kenyon, who had a tumultuous relationship, had used drugs prior to the incident at their home on Priory Avenue, Leigh.
Judge John Roberts, sentencing Waters, stated that no punishment could truly compensate the victim’s family.
He acknowledged that the attack was not premeditated, noting that Waters contacted others immediately afterward and was working to overcome her drug addiction.
Stephen Riordan, QC, representing Waters, mentioned she had no prior violent convictions and expressed her genuine remorse.
"On that day, there was an argument, which continued inside the house," said Mr Riordan.
"After a break, the argument resumed when the deceased returned.
She found herself in the front room, where decorating was taking place.
A small decorating knife was available, which she took up and used against him," he explained.
He added that Waters was deeply concerned about Kenyon’s family, especially since his brother Lee Kenyon had died from a drug overdose in November.
"She is very remorseful and bitterly regrets what happened that day." Although Waters denied murder, she admitted to manslaughter, which the prosecution accepted.
