ANIL GILL
Ranjit Gill's body was found on January 31st at the couple’s residence in Milton Keynes, wrapped in a duvet and black bin liners.
The court was told that the stabbing occurred after a night of drinking and taking cocaine.
Gill was sentenced to life imprisonment after the court found him guilty of murder on Friday.
Although he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter, the jury rejected this and convicted him of murder, dismissing his defense that he acted in a fit of rage after comments made by his wife about an affair.
Judge Mark Bishop described the murder as "a ruthless, cold-blooded attack," noting that the victim sustained 18 stab wounds, some of which were very deep, with the final wound severing her throat.
The prosecution stated that Gill had exhibited dominating and bullying behavior towards his wife in the years leading up to her death.
Prosecutor Charles Ward-Jackson recounted incidents where Gill had hit his wife with a plank, threatened her with a knife and a sword, and pushed her down the stairs.
Police had previously responded to a domestic incident at their home in 2018, but Mrs.
Gill refused to provide details.
Her sister had advised her to leave her husband, but she was afraid he would hunt her down and kill her.
The murder happened in the early hours of the morning, but Gill only contacted police around 10 a.m.
The family paid tribute to Ms.
Gill, with her sister Tejinder McCann saying, "My baby sister was taken away from me by a man who was supposed to have cared and loved her in sickness and health." Her niece, Monica Aujla, reflected on her loss, stating, "She was violently killed by someone who was supposed to love and protect her, and our grief is much harder because of the brutality involved." The family described her as "a beautiful soul," and her sister Kamel Aujla urged anyone experiencing abuse to seek help and leave, warning others not to become a statistic like her sister.
