DARLINGTON MAN TO STAND TRIAL FOR MULTIPLE COUNTS OF RAPE AND CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
A Darlington man named Aniis Thomson is scheduled to stand trial accused of three counts of rape.
He has pleaded guilty to possession of indecent images of children but denies the more serious charges of rape.
Thomson appeared at Teesside Crown Court for a pre-trial preparation hearing and admitted possession of 18 Category A images, 114 Category B images, 49 Category C images, and six prohibited images of children.
The court was informed that Thomson denied three allegations of rape occurring between August 2022 and August 2023, all involving the same individual.
Judge Richard Bennett stated that due to his guilty pleas, Thomson must register as a sex offender within three days under the law, failure to do so would constitute an offence and could lead to arrest.
He was also advised that he would be sentenced for the child abuse images following the conclusion of his trial, which has been scheduled for September 15, 2027.
Thomson was released on conditional bail until the trial date.
