A depraved man named Andrew Thomson, aged 53, has been convicted and sentenced for grooming and sexually abusing two boys over a period of 13 months.
Thomson would take the boys out and buy them things, allegedly telling them that it would be bad luck for life if they disclosed the abuse.
During police interviews, the boys revealed Thomson had made them watch him perform sex acts, repeatedly touched them inappropriately, and sexually assaulted them.
A significant portion of the offending occurred in the back of Thomson's van.
The boys, who were just six and eight years old at the time, were subjected to weekly horrific rapes, and Thomson also raped one of the boys on another occasion and used objects to sexually assault them.
Their mother expressed her anger and concern about the lasting impact on her children’s mental health and future relationships, lamenting that they should be enjoying their childhood instead of enduring such trauma.
Court proceedings also revealed Thomson's past offenses, including sexual assaults on two boys in 2000 when he was 20, which only came to light after his arrest.
Thomson pleaded guilty early on, showing remorse, but was deemed a dangerous individual posing a significant risk to the community.
The judge sentenced him to 24 years in prison, a decision met with cheers from the public gallery.
