JERSEY MAN WITH AUTISM KILLS MOTHER AFTER EVICTION FEARS
A man named Andrew Nisbet, aged 40 at the time, was involved in a domestic homicide where he murdered his 68-year-old mother, Pamela. The incident occurred in August 2019 when Nisbet, who has severe autism spectrum disorder and Asperger syndrome, killed his mother in her home.
An inquest revealed that after a disagreement with his father, he jumped out of a two-storey window, injuring his legs, and expressed suicidal intentions if evicted from the property where he was living in the annexe.
Despite his severe autism, a psychiatric nurse stated he never indicated harmful intentions towards others and had no history of violence.
Nisbet had moved to Jersey from the UK with his partner and infant son in 2017, initially living in the family annexe.
His mental health deteriorated over time, but his autism and Asperger's were known.
The family had tried to support him by buying a new house, but he refused to move and requested modifications to his living space.
Following a refusal by his parents to make alterations or install a heat pump, Nisbet jumped from the window, injuring himself.
The inquest noted that he had become fixated on the property as his permanent home, and his feelings of rejection led to a meltdown during the eviction process.
Police had been called repeatedly over concerns for his safety, and five days after the eviction, he murdered his mother.
The case was due to be concluded soon.
