MAN JAILED AFTER CREATING THOUSANDS OF INDECENT IMAGES AND SHARING IN GLOBAL GROUP CHATS
A man has been sentenced to prison after creating thousands of indecent images of children, some of which were shared within WhatsApp groups exceeding 20,000 members.Andrew Moseley, of Speechley Drove in Borough Fen, Peterborough, came under investigation after the National Crime Agency (NCA) referred his case to Derbyshire police.
The referral followed reports that he had been communicating with a 14-year-old boy who uploaded explicit images of himself online.
In July 2023, Moseley was detained at his former residence in Church Gresley, where police also seized his electronic devices.
An examination of these devices revealed his participation in 36 WhatsApp group chats focused on the sexual abuse of children.
The conversations within these groups discussed sharing explicit images and videos of minors.
Overall, these chats included 24,042 members from 141 countries worldwide.
Evidence on Moseley's devices showed that he had been involved in discussing, promoting, and sharing child abuse materials for approximately 15 years, with some content dating back to 2009.
Charged in March, Moseley pleaded guilty to multiple offenses, including causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activities, creating indecent images across categories A, B, and C, and distributing such images.
Other charges included conspiracy to distribute indecent images, possession of prohibited and extreme pornography images, and attempting to induce a child to partake in sexual acts.
He appeared at Derby Crown Court on 27 February, where he was initially sentenced to 15 years in prison.
However, this was later reduced to 10 years in light of his guilty plea.
Additionally, Moseley was subject to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a Deprivation of Rights Order pertaining to the confiscated devices following the police investigation.
