STOKE-ON-TRENT RAPIST ANDREW MORAN JAILED FOR BREACHING COURT ORDERS

Convicted rapist Andrew Moran has been jailed after he forced himself into a woman's Stoke-on-Trent home in the middle of the night.

The 48-year-old turned up at the victim's address at 4am and pushed his way inside after she opened the door.

He eventually left but returned to the property later that day.

And about seven weeks he drove up and down her street.

The incidents meant he breached court orders banning him from going there.

Now Moran has been jailed for 28 months at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.

Prosecutor Ben Williams said the defendant was convicted of rape in 1998, indecent assault in 2004 and sexual assault in 2014.

He breached a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) by going to the home of a woman he knew at 4am on July 1, 2018.

"Something was thrown at the window.

She looked out.

He knocked on the door.

She opened it and told him to clear off.

He walked past and sat on the sofa and asked if he could stay.

It was clear he had been drinking as he slurred his words." She had left her phone upstairs by her bed.

She told the defendant if he did not leave she would call the police.

He told her if she called the police they would become sworn enemies.

The defendant wiped his fingerprints off the door handle and left.

She locked the door but Moran returned about three times in the next few minutes but she did not answer the door.

The police attended at 4.25am.

She said she wanted the incident logged but did not want to make a formal complaint.

But the defendant knocked on the woman's front door later that day at 4.30pm.

Mr Williams said: "Her partner answered.

The defendant asked to speak to the woman and was told she was out.

He saw she was in the house and asked her to come for a chat.

She refused." Moran was banned from driving for 12 months, which will start when he is released from jail.

He was also made the subject of an indefinite restraining order, which prevents him having any contact with his victim.

Judge David Fletcher said: "You went to her house in the early hours and forced your way in.

You went back later the same day.

There is no question alcohol played its part.

It has caused the victim serious harm or distress."
