ANDREW MCNALLY SENTENCED IN SKEGNESS AND PAIGNTON FOR SEX OFFENSES AGAINST SEVEN-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a case that has shocked the communities of Paignton and Skegness, Andrew McNally, a 51-year-old man from Skegness, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after admitting to the heinous crime of raping a seven-year-old girl. The incident took place over a series of weeks in 1999, during which McNally engaged in repeated sexual abuse of the young victim.Details of the case emerged during a hearing at Exeter Crown Court, where it was revealed that the girl did not initially report the abuse to authorities. The allegations only came to light five years later when the victim attempted to take her own life by overdosing, prompting her to seek medical help and eventually disclose the abuse she had endured.
Judge John Rucker, presiding over the case, sentenced McNally to nine years behind bars and ordered that he be placed on the sex offenders' register for life, emphasizing the severity of his crimes and the lasting impact on the victim.
Prosecutor Peter Ashman outlined the disturbing details of the case, stating that McNally was responsible for both raping the young girl and subjecting her to indecent assault. The assaults occurred at the victim’s home in Paignton and also took place in McNally’s car, which was used as a location for some of the abuse.
During police interviews, McNally initially denied any connection to the girl, claiming he had never been to Devon and did not know her. However, authorities were able to trace him through his vehicle, which had been observed in the area, leading to his eventual arrest and confession.
Further investigation revealed that McNally had a troubling criminal history, including two previous convictions for indecently assaulting girls under the age of 14. These prior convictions underscored the dangerous pattern of behavior that led to his recent conviction.
As a result of his guilty plea and the evidence presented, McNally’s sentencing marks a significant step in the pursuit of justice for the young girl and serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding children from sexual abuse.
