JAILED ABUSER HAS 'NO ONE TO BLAME BUT HIMSELF'
Matthew Dunn, a 54-year-old former resident of The Meadows in Skegness, has received a sentence of two years and nine months behind bars following a series of offences committed against two ex-partners.Lincoln Crown Court was informed that Dunn kept calling his former girlfriend just three weeks after he was given a suspended jail term for threatening her with a kitchen knife.
Additionally, the court heard that Dunn entered another woman’s house unlawfully and damaged her property after she ended their relationship.
He admitted to breaching a previous suspended sentence as well as a restraining order, along with three charges of common assault, harassment, and criminal damage.
On January 2, Dunn was handed an 18-month suspended sentence after threatening his ex-girlfriend with a knife during a July 2024 argument, the court was told.
He was also issued a restraining order after threatening to return that night to harm her car, garden, and windows.
On January 24, he began calling her again, which she recorded, leading to her feeling fearful of leaving the house.
Following their breakup, Dunn started another relationship that ended in June.
On July 11, the woman found Dunn had entered her home without permission—they found cut electrical cables, vodka on the carpet, and moisturiser in her handbag.
Dunn returned two days later, leaving her feeling intimidated.
He was arrested on July 15 and placed in custody.
The court noted Dunn's extensive criminal record, which includes 31 convictions for 47 offences.
Neil Sands, representing Dunn, stated that prison was inevitable and acknowledged that Dunn recognized he was not suited for relationships.
He also mentioned that Dunn’s brother was very unwell.
Judge James House KC sentenced Dunn, emphasizing that the defendant’s actions were his own responsibility.
The judge noted that Dunn should have known there would be consequences for not adhering to court orders, warning that he had only himself to blame.
